What is a dental crown?

Dental crowns are fixed dental restorations and restore the natural appearance and function of teeth. A crown must look alike and function like a natural tooth. It could be the treatment of choice for an endodontically treated tooth or when there are extended fillings, cracks and discoloration.

Practically, a crown is like a ‘cap’, that is bonded from the dentist on the prepared tooth, covering all surfaces. The morphology of the tooth is restored and the tooth is protected from further damage.

The crowns can also be fixed on implants, the so called ‘implant crowns’.
